Thank You For Joining Us ~Chili Cook-Off~

Chili Cook-off Heats up the Giving!

What hits the spot on a cold, rainy day in February? Chili and beer say over 650 folks who came out to Sycamore Brewing for our 2nd Annual Chili Cook-off! 45 chili competitors rose to the challenge with flavors ranging from traditional, ultra-spicy, vegetarian and exotic- think peanut butter and squash. The chili, beer and laughter flowed until late in the afternoon when the pots were empty and the bragging rights awarded! In the end, over $12,000 was given to support Bless Back Worldwide.

Our organizers, Nick and Dalissia Grothe, have a special fondness for Bless Back. They spent their honeymoon with us in Haiti, starting a lifelong tradition of service as a couple. Nick and Dalissia continue to invest as “Blessbackers” (monthly givers) and host events, like the Chili Cook-off, to raise funds and awareness. Their generosity supports the important work that happens on the ground in Haiti and Nicaragua every day because of Bless Back. We are grateful for volunteers like the Grothes whose passion drives our ministry!

A special thanks to Spaugh Dameron Tenny for their help in organizing the event and to our premier sponsor, Circle K.

A huge thank you also goes to:

Go to Grow scholarship Recipient: Joanna Young

Congratulations to Joanna Young, the first Go to Grow scholarship recipient.  Our generous partner, Spaugh Dameron Tenny, offers opportunities for their clients in the medical and dental field to serve with Bless Back medical teams.  Joanna, a resident at Carolinas Healthcare System (Atrium Health), spent a week in Nicaragua giving much needed care to our patients.  For more information, check out their scholarship page here:

Fauche becomes secondary clinic site in Haiti

The Bless Back Worldwide/Mission of Hope International medical mission is expanding! We love our beautiful primary clinic in Thozin, the main campus of Mission of Hope International in Grand Goave, which houses medical, dental and pharmacy rooms. However, not everyone can travel the distance to Thozin, so we continue to establish “secondary sites” where the staff will make regular rounds to serve more remote locations.  The patients there receive the same high quality, continuous care that we give at Thozin, just in a more “natural” setting. Many of our teams have visited the breathtaking mountain area of St. Etienne, a long-standing secondary site.  Pastor Lex has now strategically chosen Fauche, which is on the eastern side of Grand Goave, to be the newest locale for medical ministry.

The January team was able to go door to door in Fauche, introducing themselves, praying with the families and inviting them to the clinic.  The Haitian people are incredibly kind and hospitable and so it is a joy to take some time out of the bustle of each trip to simply walk the quiet paths from home to home. Inevitably, we meet a new friend who captures part
