During the Lenten season, we are reminded of the power of sacrifice, reflection, and renewal. It is a time for us to pause, reevaluate our priorities, and consider how we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
We are in urgent need of financial assistance for the dental program in Grand Goave, Haiti. Bless Back Worldwide established this clinic 11 years ago with the generous support of several dentists who played a crucial role in enhancing oral healthcare in what would otherwise be a dental desert.
Oral Health in Haiti
Most of the dental clinics in Haiti are in Port Au Prince, leaving the rural areas as dental health deserts. Moreover, with the recent decline in governance and the rise in gang violence, central Haiti has become inaccessible.
Moreover, the statistics presented reflect pre-pandemic figures and are likely overrepresentative of oral healthcare providers. Many have likely departed due to the outbreak of violence in the country.
This Lent, we invite you to join us in the spirit of “Give Up, Give Back.” Rather than simply relinquishing something for personal benefit, consider channelling that sacrifice towards a greater purpose. Here are some ideas to consider:
1. Give Up a Convenience, Give Back to Those in Need: Instead of your daily latte or dining out, consider redirecting those funds towards improving oral healthcare in Haiti.
2. Volunteer or Donate with Us: Are you a dentist or a dental assistant? Beyond financial contributions, your time and skills are invaluable assets. Consider volunteering or sending supplies.
3. Reflect and Pray: Take this Lenten season as an opportunity for introspection and prayer. Reflect on the impact you’ve seen BBW make, and please pray for our current needs and how we can serve Haiti amidst the current oral health care crisis and political climate that poses an ongoing challenge for us. We are grateful to reach this population in desperate need of our help.
