When Bless Back began its dental care initiatives in Grand Goave, Haiti back in 2012, we made a conscious decision to focus our care on children. Our partners at Mission of Hope International have over 800 students in two schools, so we saw an opportunity to change the overall trajectory of their oral health with early interventions. Our teams regularly screen classes for dental issues and teach good oral care in the classroom. Our biggest contribution, however, may be our established “Fluoride Swish Program”. Dr. Chris Kibler instituted the program after studies showed that a simple fluoride mouth rinse could greatly reduce decay in children. Now, Bless Back supplies the fluoride solution and supplies needed for MOHI students to receive a weekly treatment. We’re excited to see how this program impacts our students’ oral health in years to come.
